Over the past few weeks, I have found myself reflecting on one word more than any other. Resilience.

It is easy to speak about resilience in theory. It is far more powerful to witness it in action. And every single day, I have seen it lived out across our Rushmore community.

In a time that has been uncertain, disrupted, and at moments challenging for us all, our staff, students, and parents have continued to show an incredible strength of character. Not in one single way, but in many different forms.

One moment that stood out to me was seeing our Head of Operations determined to reach the school site despite the severe weather, road closures, and difficult conditions. That quiet determination to show up, to lead, and to ensure the safety of our school environment is a powerful example of resilience in its purest form. It is not always loud or visible, but it is unwavering.

Over the last few weeks of online learning, I have also seen resilience in our classrooms, even if those classrooms have been virtual. I know that for many of our teachers, being away from face-to-face learning is not what they enjoy. They thrive on the energy of the classroom, the interactions, the relationships built in person. Yet, despite this, they have adapted, innovated, and continued to deliver engaging and meaningful lessons for our students. That is resilience.

Our students have mirrored this. Logging on each day, staying focused, participating, and continuing their learning despite the change in routine is no small task. It requires discipline, adaptability, and a positive mindset. These are qualities that will serve them far beyond school, and it has been inspiring to see them develop in real time.

And to our parents, your resilience has not gone unnoticed. Balancing work, family life, and supporting learning at home is not easy. The partnership you have shown with the school, your patience, and your support have made a real difference.

What stands out most is how consistent this has been across the whole community. It has shown in leadership, in classrooms, at home, and in the small decisions people make each day.

I am proud of how the Rushmore community has responded during this time.
